Tarentum quilter gives Greensburg audience code to Underground Railroad patterns

Ethel Hayden, 88, of Tarentum displays fabric patterns that helped guide people on the path to freedom from enslavement in the pre-Civil War South. She spoke on the topic during the program “A Quilting Journey: Threads of Freedom and the Underground Railroad” on Friday<ins>, Sept. 29</ins> at the Westmoreland County YWCA in Greensburg.

Ethel Hayden grew up in West Leechburg seated around a quilting frame with her siblings.
