Sewing guild busy working on Christmas stockings for soldiers

Erin Garstka of Monroeville works on a vintage 1950 Singer Featherweight sewing machine at the Murrysville Alliance Church as members of the American Sewing Guild gathered to make Christmas stockings. When complete, the stockings will be given to New Kensington nonprofit Military Connections to be filled and sent overseas.

Members of the American Sewing Guild are getting ready for Christmas, even though it’s August. Guild members were busy this week sewing Christmas stockings to be shipped to military members stationed overseas. The group worked into the early afternoon at Murrysville Alliance Church. The stockings are donated to New Kensington-based nonprofit Military Connections, which fills them with treats and distributes them.
