Rescuers employ remote cameras, dogs in Unity sinkhole search as mine is 'too unstable to send people down there'

First responders spent all night on Monday, Dec. 3, and into the morning of Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2024, searching for Elizabeth Pollard, 64, who is believed to have fallen into a sinkhole behind Monday’s Union Restaurant on Marguerite Road in Unity.

Unity Fire Chief John Bacha said Tuesday afternoon that it is too dangerous to send search-and-rescue personnel into the former Marguerite coal mine to search for a woman believed to have fallen into a sinkhole Monday afternoon in Unity.
