Recreation, conservation projects in A-K Valley, Westmoreland County to get ion in grants

The Rachel Carson Trails Conservancy is among the 317 organizations statewide that will receive grants totaling $70 million for recreation and conservation projects. The Trail Conservancy plans to use $47,000 toward the purchase of about 62 acres of property in East Deer Township to add open space and passive recreation. The 35-mile Rachel Carson Trail runs from Harrison Hills Park in Harrison to North Park in Pine.

Grants totaling nearly $70 million will help fund more than 300 recreation and conservation projects across the state, including a number in the Alle-Kiski Valley and Westmoreland County, Gov. Tom Wolf recently announced.
