Mail, passenger routes, flight instruction helped spur growth at Unity airport

Latrobe native Bob Downs, 90, of Monroeville, shows a model of a Stinson Gullwing plane, similar to the ones used to pick up bags of airmail on the fly beginning in 1939 at the Latrobe Airport, now Arnold Palmer Regional Airport, in Unity.

One thing was sure to lure young Bob Downs away from the dinner table.
