About 23 hikers signed up for an opt-outside hiking meet-up group on Black Friday at Linn Run State Park. The opt-outside is part of an REI initiative encouraging people to get outdoors instead of shopping on Black Friday. REI is one of the few retail stores that remains closed on Black Friday.

On a brisk Black Friday morning that left a dusting of snow atop one of the ridges in Linn Run State Park southeast of Ligonier, a group of 23 Western Pennsylvania hikers opted out of the shopping mall crowds and opted in for a nine-mile hike along a trail that rose 800 feet.
