Happy tail: Rare hawk rehabilitated, released in Laurel Highlands

A rare female leucistic red-tailed hawk is photographed before being released in Cook on Tuesday. The bird was found injured near the area of Powdermill Nature Reserve in late July and was rehabilitated by Wildlife Works in Youngwood.

The red-tailed hawk didn’t hesitate at all — with a “one, two, three,” the bird spread its wings in Cook Tuesday morning, showing no sign of the trauma it sustained 11 days ago after apparently being hit by a vehicle.
