Westmoreland County is seeking a FULL-TIME PUBLIC DEFENDER to work in the Office of The Public Defender. Job duties include the following: Representing indigent defendants in criminal matters, the ability to prepare and argue legal petitions and briefs, and representation of juveniles in delinquency proceedings as well as parties subject to involuntary mental health commitment. The successful candidate should have knowledge of federal and state law and court procedures, as well as the ability to write with persuasion and deal with difficult personalities.
The successful candidate shall be admitted to practice law in Pennsylvania and be in good standing with the Bar. It is preferred that the candidate have an understanding of criminal law and procedure.
