Fort Ligonier 18th century military encampment 'awesome' learning experience

William Evans, 11, ‘signs up’ for the Continental Army that fought during the Revolutionary War against Great Britain as his mother, Heather; father, David; and sister, Quinnlynn, 10, look on at Fort Ligonier on Sunday. The Army ‘registrar’ is Walt Cormack of Bridgeville, who handed the boy a land grant and some money for his service. On the table is a Charleville musket and a Pennsylvania Long Rifle.

As 18th century military reenactors at Fort Ligonier were preparing on Sunday to fire six- and 12-pound cannons packed with explosive cartridges meant to immitate the sound of cannonballs, David Evans of Pittsburgh’s North Hills was teaching his daughter, Quinnlynn, about the weapons she was seeing.
