9 area men were killed in rarely discussed Exercise Tiger drill for D-Day invasion

LST-507 was one of two American landing boats that were sunk by German E-boats during Exercise Tiger, a pre-D-Day training exercise involving more than 30,000 U.S. troops on April 28, 1944.

Les Mlakar knew his uncle Albert was killed during World War II. But when his other uncles discussed it — which was rare, if ever — they only did so in Slovenian.
