Road Superintendent

Westmoreland County is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Road Superintendent. The purpose of the position is to oversee, maintain and monitor the County owned roads and bridges; and direct, coordinate and supervise the work crews.

Overview:
Job duties include directing, coordinating and scheduling employees, equipment and projects; complete and document county road inspection reports; perform inventory of road and preventative maintenance materials and order as necessary; receive and resolve complaints of road issues and hazards from the general public; and safely operate heavy equipment and power tools. The position is a hands-on working position with administrative responsibilities and requires the candidate to be on call 24×7 for road emergencies.

The candidate must possess good communication and interpersonal skills, be able to function independently, have flexibility and the ability to work effectively with employees and co-workers, possess the technical knowledge to operate mechanical and heavy equipment, operate a computer, be able to make independent decisions, multi task while maintaining concentration and productivity, learn additional trade specialties, and possess the knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.

Qualifications:
Applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalent. Five years experience in construction, roadway maintenance with some supervisory experience is preferred. Applicants must also have a valid PA Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and must be able to obtain a PA Certified Public Pesticide Applicator’s Certification (Category 10) and the OSHA 30 Hour Training course within six months of employment.
