Defense claims police cover-up as trial begins for man charged in East Huntingdon shootout

A Pennsylvania State Police investigator looks into the trunk of a vehicle on the property of James R. Miller of East Huntingdon on Jan. 29, 2024. Miller was shot by state police the night before when officers responded to a call about gunshots and damage to a nearby home. Police claim that during their investigation, Miller walked out onto his front porch and fired multiple rounds from a shotgun, and they returned fire.

The lawyer for an East Huntingdon man charged with the attempted murder of two state police officers told a Westmoreland County jury Monday that the case against her client is based on a police cover-up.
